What Is Memory Care?
Memory care is a lifestyle tailored for older adults with Alzheimer’s and other similar cognitive conditions. We approach this lifestyle holistically, focussing on building strong relationships between residents and staff and encouraging residents to stay connected to their long-term memories.
By emphasizing The Peregrine Way®, we promote renewed personal growth while still honoring our residents’ pasts and cherishing their memories.
What Can Memory Care Address?
Personalized, compassionate, and accessible care can be essential to the well-being of adults living with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other forms of dementia. Memory can address daily challenges caused by these conditions with services designed to help your loved one live well.
Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common forms of dementia. It can make life challenging for those who have it, as well as their families.
Common symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease include memory problems, mood swings, and other challenges with daily living.
Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s is a progressive brain disorder often characterized by stiffness or shakiness. It can also cause depression, memory loss, fatigue, issues with sleep, and cognitive challenges that can be addressed with supportive memory care.
Other Forms of Dementia
Dementia is a general term describing a wide range of cognitive and language impairments that can negatively affect a person’s quality of life.
The symptoms of dementia vary from person to person but often include confusion, memory loss, hallucinations, and changes in personality.
When To Choose Memory Care
Because of its impact on quality of life, being a primary caregiver to those living with dementia and similar cognitive conditions can become complicated, especially when your loved one’s safety feels at risk.
Memory care can offer the support your loved one may need, helping you avoid caregiver burnout and focus on spending quality time with those you care about.
Some of the signs it may be time to consider a memory care lifestyle are listed below. If you have questions about memory care or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Behavioral Changes
Mood swings, personality changes, and neglecting personal hygiene are common behaviours associated with dementia. A drastic shift in personality can be another indicator of dementia or associated conditions.
Forgetfulness
Basic forgetfulness is not always a cause for concern, but neglecting to eat or make meals, forgetting important dates, missing appointments, or mixing up medications can be signs that your loved one may be experiencing dementia.
Wandering
If you notice your loved one often finding themselves in unfamiliar situations, it may be time to consider memory care. The appearance of unexplained bruises or injuries and wandering without cognition can be signs that your loved one is experiencing cognitive challenges.

Our Testimonials
After many years of caring for my wife Maria at home, I realized that her dementia had progressed beyond my ability to provide her the care and security she needed.
The next step – find a home that could provide for her needs. I visited numerous facilities in Western New York including Peregrine Senior Living of Orchard Park.
Peregrine was my choice for many reasons. It is a smaller home with a true sense of community. Their focus is memory care, which becomes obvious when you see the various special areas and daily activities. Most important, however, is the compassionate and professional staff that provide for the residents. Peregrine welcomes family members to visit and participate. Their holiday celebrations never disappoint!
Maria started her third year as a resident at Peregrine. Maria is safe and fulfilled. She considers Peregrine as her HOME.
